Whale watching in Magdalena Bay and hiking and kayaking on Espiritu Santo, one of the most beautiful islands in the Sea of Cortez, have long been two of the most precious pearls of adventure travel.

Day 1
Feb 3

Arrive in La Paz, transfer to hotel. Welcome dinner and trip overview that evening.  We will be staying at the Posada Luna Sol, a quaint Mexican Inn that symbolizes the relaxed yet elegant style of Baja.  Why stay in a bland and impersonal huge hotel when the hospitality of a small, quiet Inn awaits to welcome us?

Day 2
Feb 4

Meet at 7 am in hotel lobby, transfer by boat 18 miles into the Sea of Cortez to our basecamp in Candelero Bay on Espiritu Santo Island. Gourmet lunch will be waiting for us in camp. Settle into camp, orientation, kayak instruction, snorkeling around the small islands in Candelero Bay, happy hour & dinner.

Days 3-4
Feb 5-6

Days are spent taking our skiffs to remote island locations for hikes, snorkeling with the sea lions, kayaking remote bays, fishing, or simply just relaxing in camp and letting your worries melt away.

Evenings are spent telling stories around the campfire, taking in the star filled sky or enjoying a night paddle on the calm waters of the bay.

As with all Still Water Travel programs, we will be offering a series of ceremonies and conscious group gatherings which focus on ritual exploration designed to bring a greater awareness and appreciation of your experience and how to integrate it with your life back home.

Day 5
Feb 7

Our final morning of play and adventure at our beach camp, mid-day transfer to La Paz. Overnight in hotel. Dinner and celebration.

Feb 8

Baja yoga whale watch

Meet at 8 am in hotel lobby, transfer to Magdalena Bay, approx. 3.5 hrs. Lunch en-route. Settle into camp, orientation, our first whale watch experience, happy hour and our first gourmet dinner under the stars.

Days 7-8
Feb 9-10

Each day has a variety of options available .  A typical day might include:

  • Whale watching
  • Hike across the dunes for some world class beach combing
  • Paddle back into the mangrove estuaries for bird watching and adventure
  • Relax in camp and let your worries melt away

Baja yoga whale watch magdalena bayTwo whale watching excursions are offered every day. One in the morning and one in the late afternoon. Each excursion will be approximately two hours with plenty of opportunity for some remarkable whale encounters.

Evenings are spent telling stories around the campfire, taking in the star filled sky, enjoying a quiet stroll across the moon-lit dunes, or watching a slide show and natural history lecture.

As with all Still Water Travel programs, we will be offering a series of ceremonies and conscious group gatherings which focus on ritual exploration designed to bring a greater awareness and appreciation of your experience and how to integrate it with your life back home.

Feb 11

Our last whale encounters, lunch at camp, mid-day transfer to La Paz. Overnight in hotel. Farewell dinner and celebration.

Feb 12 		Group taxis to airport and a return home.  I guarantee that you will return home a different person than the one who arrived in Baja ten days earlier!

Please note that due to the nature of adventure travel in foreign countries, this itinerary is subject to change. We will always attempt to adhere to our itinerary but request that all trip members remain flexible. Your enjoyment and safety are our highest concerns.

 

A Few Words From Past Experiences

I returned from the Baja Whale Watch with a sense of peace and of being centered. A week later that feeling has not left me, the blissful state continues.
We left San Diego with a group of strangers and came back feeling like family.
What an extraordinary experience! The beauty of the setting and the miracle of the whales is really impossible to put into words. I just know that first morning of experiencing the trusting interaction with the whales literally moved me to tears as we returned to camp. I got to pet a mother and her baby on my birthday, it doesn't get much better than that.
I went on this trip open to all experiences. I was not disappointed. We were thoughtfully guided through an amazing week of body, mind and soul enrichment. I will never forget this trip. I am truly blessed to have been able to go.

Living on a remote edge of Magdalena Bay in the shelter of huge sand dunes sculpted by mother nature was a wonderfully relaxing experience. Sunrises over the glassy bay and sunsets over the sand dunes and Pacific Ocean were always peaceful and soothing. The camaraderie that developed among new acquaintances in the process of communing with the whales made the experience a delight. The soft skin of mother and baby whales seeking a friendly human encounter was striking. Thanks Chess. It was a great trip.
