When
Are CHM Gatherings Held? |
The evenings are held from 6:30 - 9:30 PM on a Sunday evening.
There is a requested donation
of between $10.00 - $20.00 for the evening. This
helps offset costs for each event's preparations and materials,
taking the
guest lecturer out to dinner at our local Mexican joint and
creating the environment for these gatherings. If you
find that you are unable to make a donation at this time,
please do not let that keep you from coming and participating.
You are always welcome! The main thing is that we all help
to keep our community conscious and in a state of compassionate
awareness.

The
Council of Hearts & Minds Concept |
The concept of the Council of Hearts & Minds (CHM) was born out
of the desire to share important concepts of conscious living with
others within our community. When faced with the question of what I
might possibly do to make a small difference in the health and well
being of our global consciousness, it seemed that the sharing of our
community member's beliefs, ideas and perceptions might go a long way
in helping keep our spiritual awareness alive and in-tact.
Rather than wait until we happen
to get together at some random event or gathering, the Council
of Hearts and Minds meets regularly to discuss topics important
to our lives. Some of our evening gatherings center around a
topic presented by a guest lecturer, some are an open topic to which we all contribute our experiences, while other CHM gatherings focus
on books or other writings.
Check
out our Past Councils for examples of typical CHM evenings.

What
is a CHM Gathering Like?
|
A Council of Hearts and Minds evening is based quite simply on focusing
intention on a specific topic of discussion. The evenings are limited
to 15 participants and are based on a reservation system. All
CHM events are held at the home of Chess Edwards in Del Dios.
CHM gatherings are an opportunity
for people to express and explore their own ideas or perceptions
and to be exposed to those of others. They are a place for respect,
tolerance, open minds and open hearts. We come together to share
ideas, not to change other's opinions.
We gather in a large circle,
and share our thoughts in a Council format where the person speaking
is not interrupted and is permitted to finish their thought before
the next person speaks.
If the evening is focused on
a topic to be presented by a guest lecturer then he/she will
spend no more than 30 minutes presenting the topic for discussion.
If the evening's discussion is to revolve around a specific writing
or book, then all participants are asked to have read the book
before the gathering.
After the lecture, topic presentation or short
reading of specific book passages, the floor is opened to discussion
with the facilitator presenting various questions to be explored.
The facilitator is responsible for shaping the evening and guiding
the discussion so as to keep it relevant and in line with the
evening's expressed topic.
Food and beverages will not
be provided at the gatherings. Please eat before arriving and
bring any beverages that you are interested in drinking.
